What we’ve learned at Class Artz Academy is that all children can benefit from a creative art experience. Whether it’s painting, sculpting or drawing, art can help boost a child’s self-esteem and give them confidence to try new things. Both our online and after school art programs are perfect for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 who are keen to explore art-making and creating with new materials.
The art activities offered in both platforms are designed to help children communicate, focus, persevere, take risks and cultivate creative critical thinking. Whether it’s face to face, or video lessons, the aim of these classes is to give students confidence and foster artistic potential.
There is no right or wrong in art – so all of our wonderful students can feel safe to unleash their own creative potential whether at home, or in the classroom.
Renee McDonald is the owner and creative director of Class Artz Academy – a boutique Art school with its headquarters based in Sydney, Australia. She spent the first 25 years of her career teaching primary school students in the classroom before transitioning to her current role which has allowed her to combine her passion and her profession of teaching Art and doing all things creative.
Renee feels strongly about being able to bring Art to all children. She believes that Art is one of the most important aspects for a child’s development because it provides children with an outlet to self-express, which in turn, builds their confidence as they continue to grow. She feels that producing and creating any form of Art is a safe and secure way to discover that it’s ok to make mistakes, and more importantly, that getting things ‘wrong’ can lead the child to a whole new ideology by viewing everything from a different perspective.
Renee teaches weekly classes after school and runs periodic school holiday workshops. When she is not teaching, she enjoys yoga, travel and of course painting. Renee lives in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire with her husband, two older children, along with her Rag Doll cat and her rather active, but very affectionate Golden Retriever.
Children have a great untapped creative potential that needs to be cultivated, encouraged and nurtured. I want students to experience the satisfaction of being creative and enjoy the process of making things, taking risks, making mistakes, solving problems and experimenting with new materials and methods. Creativity opens unimaginable doors, whether it stays in the form of physical art, moves on to music or even writing.
